Le P'tit Coup Blanc

Details

Producer: Chateau du Donjon
Region:
Languedoc, France
Grapes: Sauvignon 50%, Colombard 50%

Tasting Notes

Slightly acidic, flush with fruit and soft on the palate - the trifecta for a “little white French sipper.” Chamomile and yellow apple flavors dominate before petite white flowers and a touch of crisp acid wrap it up.

Pairing Recommendations

aperitif, seafood platters (even if they're from your local grocery store!), trendy beans-in-olive-oil dishes

Interesting Fact

The Donjon wine family waters a portion of their vines thanks to an old agreement document signed between a village and the family patriarch. In exchange for fixing a dam washed away by a flood they were to receive water for their vines til the end of time - the dam was repaired in 3 days and lasted for centuries.

book club tasting no.2

Gorrondona Blanc

Details

Producer: Doniene Gorrondona Txakolina
Region: Bizkaiko Txakolina, Spain
Grapes: 85% Hondarrabi Zuri, 11% hondarrabi zuri zerratia, 3% Munemahatsa, 1% "others"

Tasting Notes

Txakolina wines are a real unique treat. Straw color with an intense green iridescence, the nose is granny smith apple, white peach and asian pear and a certain herbaceous character like green guava candy and fresh cut grass. The palate is bright and tart and bursting with those same fruit salad notes on the aroma coming together with a fresh and cheerful finish.

Pairing Recommendations

peel 'n eat shrimp, tomato salads

Interesting Fact

Bixkaiko Txakolina is one of only three recognized areas for Txakoli (a Basque word, pronounced choc-o-lee, meaning "wine made from a village").

book club tasting no.3

Altomare

Details

Producer: Placido Volpone
Region: Puglia, Italy
Grapes: 100% Falanghina

Tasting Notes

Fermented in oak barrels with light battonage (stirring on the lees) for extra body and texture. The nose is ripe with exotic fruits like pineapple, mango and papaya sprinkled with lime zest and nestled in a hollowed out grapefruit with tangerine wedges and little white flowers all around. The palate carries all of these fun fruity flavors and adds soft almond and a hint of a salty sea breeze.

Pairing Recommendation

scallops with parsley butter, lemon pepper wings, caprese salad

Interesting Fact

Placido Volpone is one of the first wineries to certify the supply chain of it's wine via Blockchain technology.

book club tasting no.4

Benizar Cabernet Rosado

Details

Producer: Castillo de Benizar
Region: La Mancha, Spain
Grapes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes

The full bodied Cabernet fruit shines with red currant and raspberry aromas surrounding a strawberry led palate with a hint of sweetness.

Pairing Recommendation

This wine is often served at the winery alongside a giant dish of paella. Most rice dishes, especially those with a good amount of spice, are a great match.

Interesting Fact

La Mancha is an arid yet fertile elevated plateau south of Madrid. The name is derived from the Arab word 'al-mansha' or 'the dry land.'

book club tasting No.5

Bons Ju

Details

Producer: Domaine de La Graveirette
Region: Cotes du Rhone, France
Grapes: 30% Merlot, 30% Marselan, 30% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre

Brambley and bright with a Juicy Juice mix of red, black and purple berry flavors. A hint of spice joins in on the palate along with fresh strawberry and mulberry.

Pairing Recommendations

nigiri sushi, fried clams, birria tacos

Interesting Fact

Half of the grapes are handpicked and the other half mechanically from 50 year old vines. All grapes are then hand sorted with double selection before being pressed.

book club tasting no.6

Terre de Malbec

Details

Vintage: 2019
Producer: Domaine de Causes
Region: Cahors, France
Grapes: 100% Malbec

Tasting Notes

Almost a pale purple, this light bodied and ultra-lightly oaked Malbec explodes with juicy blackberry and farmstand cherry juice flavors and a handful of peony. The trendier side of Malbec, and a trend we can get behind.

Pairing Recommendations

veggie stir fry, grilled steak, french dip

Interesting Fact

The winery is built on the border of a former iron mine that closed at the end of the 19th century. Iron deposits were rich here having accumulated over 35 million years ago when the region had a tropical climate.
